Types of Security Cameras, and Which Goes Where

Right camera. Right spot.

Every type is good at one job. Put each where it shines and you need fewer cameras.

Seven line icons in a row: dome, bullet, turret, corner, fisheye, multisensor and thermal cameras, each with a green lens dot.

Dome cameras

Where they fit: entrances, lobbies, offices and shop floors. Discreet, with vandal resistant models for busy doors.

Bullet cameras

Where they fit: fences, parking lots, drive lanes and long building edges. Many sites use both: domes at the doors, bullets on the lot.

Every other type, in one line

Avigilon is our usual pick. Exact models are chosen in each site’s design.

Mini domes

Hallways, stairwells and small rooms.

Fisheye

One ceiling camera sees the whole room.

Multisensor

Three or four sensors, one mount, several directions.

PTZ

Pan, tilt and zoom across big yards.

Thermal

Sees heat, not light. For dark perimeters and fog.

Corner

Mounts flush in lifts and other spots where tampering is a risk.

Turret

A ball camera in a mount. We pick a model only after checking its datasheet.

Licence plate

Gates and parking entries, tested with local plates.

Door readers

Kisi readers for phones and cards. Kisi dealer and partner.

Where the video goes

Every camera above except the cloud models is ONVIF compatible, so cameras from many brands can record to one Synology system. How we set it up

How we start

Three steps joined by a dotted line: 01 Free consult, 02 Paid site survey, 03 Pilot.

1. Free consult. We listen first.

2. Paid site survey. Scoped and quoted with you before work begins.

3. Pilot. One building, real footage, before you commit.

Since 2013. Vendor security policy work for HSBC and Hang Seng Bank. KDM Industries, a client for over 10 years.

Questions we hear

Do domes and bullets work at night?

Many models of both come with infrared. We check each datasheet in design.

Can one camera replace several?

Often. A fisheye covers a whole room, and a multisensor covers several directions from one mount.

Can we mix brands?

Yes. ONVIF compatible, so cameras from many brands can record to one Synology system.
