Ten Questions to Ask Any Security Vendor

Ask hard questions. We did.

Ask every vendor the same ten. Compare the answers. Here are ours.

1. Where will our video be stored, and who can reach it?

On a Synology system in your building, reachable only by people your administrators approve.

2. What happens when the internet goes down?

Recording, viewing and AI search keep working, and Kisi doors keep working too.

3. Are we locked into one camera brand?

No. ONVIF compatible, so cameras from many brands can record to one Synology system.

4. Can we prove who opened which door, and when?

Yes. Kisi logs every unlock, denied attempt and admin change, and exports to CSV.

5. How fast can we remove someone’s access?

As soon as you switch off their account, and contractor passes can expire on a date you set.

6. Is the access platform independently audited?

Yes. Kisi is audited to SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO/IEC 27001:2022.

7. How is the system protected from attack?

Like any IT network: its own network, no default passwords, current firmware and no open ports.

8. Can it grow from one building to many?

Yes. One Synology system records up to 600 cameras, and central management covers up to 50,000 cameras.

9. Who do we call when something breaks?

Us. One number to call, (604) 813-7881. The team that installs it answers.

10. Can we see it working before we commit?

Yes. After a paid site survey, we install a pilot on one building.

Why we wrote this

Our founder, Tony Phung, helped write vendor cybersecurity policies for banks. These are the questions we would ask ourselves.

How we start

Three steps joined by a dotted line: 01 Free consult, 02 Paid site survey, 03 Pilot.

1. Free consult. We listen first.

2. Paid site survey. Scoped and quoted with you before work begins.

3. Pilot. One building, real footage, before you commit.

Since 2013. Vendor security policy work for HSBC and Hang Seng Bank. KDM Industries, a client for over 10 years.
