What does the Law Society of BC expect from a firm’s IT?

Rule 10-4 asks lawyers to protect client records with reasonable security, and to tell the Law Society in writing right away if they lose custody or control of those records. Since March 2024, the BC Code also expects competence with the technology you use. We build the technical side, and your lawyer decides what applies.

Rule 10-4

Reasonable security for client records, and prompt written notice if they are lost.

BC PIPA and PIPEDA

How do you protect a Vancouver law firm from fraud and ransomware?

We make mailboxes harder to take over with multi-factor sign in and email anti-spoofing, keep remote desktop off the internet, and run Huntress Managed EDR with 24/7 monitoring on every computer we manage. Backups follow 3-2-1, with an immutable offsite copy here in Vancouver, and restores are tested.

Email takeover

Confirm changed payment details by phone, on a number already on file.

Remote work

Citrix, Parallels, zero trust or hardened RustDesk, behind multi-factor sign in.
