What we look at when we review a dental clinic’s IT setup
Dental clinics run on their IT, yet the setup behind the scenes is easy to overlook. When we review a clinic in Vancouver, we look at a few things that matter most for patient data and for keeping the clinic running.
The server setup
We check whether the server is built on modern virtualization such as Hyper-V. It makes backups, restores and upgrades easier to plan, and it does not tie the clinic to a single machine. A setup that runs straight on one piece of hardware is more exposed when that hardware fails.
Backups that restore
A backup is only useful if it can be restored. We ask when the last restore was tested, where the offsite copy is kept, and whether a copy is protected from ransomware. Patient records, billing and the schedule all depend on the answer. When did your clinic last test a restore?
The right hardware for the job
We check that the server is a commercial server and not a desktop computer doing a server’s job. The two are built for different work, and a server is a better fit for a busy practice. See why a clinic needs a true server.
How we work
We aim to explain what we find in plain words and leave the decisions with you. A clear picture of your setup lets you plan with confidence. No setup is perfect, and we point out what is working as well as what could be better.
